Nature Based Therapies - Nadine

Nadine Delaney

Supporting children and young people to access effective therapeutic support in a meaningful way; where fun, play and safe connections with animals, humans and nature help guide the growth, learning and healing processes.

Along with direct client work, Nadine is also committed to sharing the wisdom of horses and nature by supporting other practitioners, through training, supervision and consultation.

Nadine grew up in a small town, where her childhood was filled with horses, time in nature and gallops along the beach at sunrise. These experiences have given her much gratitude for the opportunities that connections with animals and nature can bring into our lives.

She studied Social Work at Newcastle University and went onto a career that involved working in statutory child protection and then supporting children and foster carers in Out of Home Care with a non-government agency.

In 2015, she decided to combine her love for horses and her passion for helping people and studied with the Equine Psychotherapy Institute Australia, to be able to offer Equine Assisted Psychotherapy to her clients. Hunter Valley Children’s Therapies (HVCT) was then founded (link to website www.huntervalleychildrenstherapies.com). Along with her team of humans and animals, HVCT offers a range of evidence-based psychological interventions and supports people across the lifespan.

Nadine now has over 20 years of experience in working with children and young people who have experiences of trauma, abuse and neglect, those with mental health challenges and children with special needs and disabilities. Nadine offers a range of Therapeutic options, including Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Nature Based Therapy.

Nadine’s father is Autistic, she herself has ADHD and she has a particular interest in working alongside neurodivergent children, young people and adults.

Healing Waters Story

Artwork by local Wonnarua Woman, Ann McSweeney

The song line stories of this art show how the indigenous people worked and lived on this land, how they help people of all walks of life, to heal the pain and the loss of what was taken from them; they help you find YOU again.

This is how the story of this art goes. The people gather around in a circle to work out what to do, to discuss a plan for healing the people that have lost their way, to become one with the animals that walk the land.

We walk the path and the tears fall with every step we take, then we are stopped by a big old tree. We may feel sad because this tree looks like it has no life left in it, when it use to stand tall and proud.

We are told to look a little closer, to see the new shoots, the leaves growing, the bees buzzing around and little bugs climbing the tree.

So there is still life in this tree yet. As a soft breeze is blowing, she drops her leaves as if talking to us; a smile comes across our faces, a word of wisdom written on them. Like as love and hope, we pick each one up; it gives us courage. In the sky above Kwal (wedge tail eagle) is above showing us the way to the soul tree as white as can be. Just the pure soul of this tree and the road we have taken has opened something up inside of us, so we danced the song of the happiest; we have found the friends we made on the way. That part of us that was once lost is now found by walking this road of Healing Waters. We found new friends along the way; the people, animals, water and this land have all had a part in our healing journey.
